Well done, BBM2, nice clue - and commiserations to Aristo.

A big thank you for your vote, Chrise. I thought there may be a place ending in 'dale' in Kent or Kentucky. (Less likely in Kenya or Kurdistan).

Cheers, Nemo

@ aristo; I've just forwarded this weekend's Listener to syzygy, I imagine you've already "disposed" of last weekend's by now.

Thanks to paul atisto jack and spike for the votes - much appreciated.

Cheers for the challenge nemo - a tricky one.

As for the chemistry, well it's only a crossword clue isn't it ;) Maybe "alloy" might have been better but as pointed out it couldn't exist.

Perhaps they could synthesise an organic anion with a lead atom somewhere in it which would love to combine with the archetypal cation K+ ?

Thanks, ginge. I didn't get to the last one because I was away for most of the week, without my Chambers!
