I am a bit confused by 1a. I would like to know if the 7 word answer ends in an E or a Y. Chambers shows it with an E but the clue indicates a Y. For non-paper readers the clue is: Once discountenanced end for Murray comes about quickly. Thanks in anticipatipon.

"end for Murray" isn't Y, it's a scots word for "die"

An E. 'end for Murray' does not mean the last letter...
