Hi, Rusty!
How was your haggis? We had shepherd's pie, mushy peas and red cabbage !
We have lunch between midday and 2pm and dinner in the evening! Different local customs!
Tea is 'Afternoon' tea at 4pm
When my husband retired from the NHS, because of the number of years' service he had put in , he and other similar members of staff were invited to a special presentation, followed by 'Afternoon Tea' at the Savoy Hotel on The Strand as a part of the retirement ceremony!
A very impressive occasion!
I know the name Frank MacGuiness? What else did he write that I might have heard of?

Hello, Elle,
I have friends who have "dinner" in the evening.
But they grew up with me, calling it "tea"!
I think television may have something to do with it.
My haggis was bang on, and your "meal" sounds great too!
McGuinness wrote the screenplay for Dancing at Lughnasa.
I did not see it but was Meryl Streep in it?
He is a Donegal man.
Not warm at all here.
We have a yellow alert for more snow!

Hi guys
Can I make a very polite and respectful suggestion? How about, for a day or two at least, trying to ration yourselves to one exclamation mark per post? See how it goes! (that's mine!) (oh no!!!) :)

But I like exclamation marks, Chris!!!!!!
I cannot fathom how to use italics or bold or underline anything, on this site, so exclamation marks are my only source of 'stress'.
(You will now have made me very self- conscious!)

Actually it's very easy, though idiosyncratic. You use the standard HTML tags, but inside square brackets instead of < >, as would be normal. I can't give an exampke as it will work, but I put "b" inside two square brackets, then turn it off by putting "/b" inside square brackets to give this effetc. See? (The tags are listed on the RHS of the "Your message" box.)

You might as well be speaking a foreign language , Chris - and the trouble is I can't experiment without its coming up on the screen.
But thank you, anyway, for trying to explain.

Hi, Rusty!
Ah yes, you are right! Meryl Streep WAS in that film - that is perhaps the context in which I heard the name Frank MacGuiness?
So, a Donegal man?
These weather alerts amuse me..... how do they go.....?
Yellow - be aware
Orange - be prepared (like a Boy Scout)
Red - take action
Your forecast sounds terrible - very low temperatures and yet more snow.
In contrast, we are expected to have much milder temps - about 12C tomorrow - and heavy cloud (but remaining dry). No sun!

Can we just ignore Chris? (sorry, Chris!) but I cannot ration my exclamation marks!

It doesn't put the letters the wrong way round, though - that was just me!

I'll try this.

this text will be in bold

Replace the "" with "[" and "]".

I expect that the first brackets won't show, though!
