Hi, Rusty!
I must be being dim, because I couldn't fathom out how to check the number of pages?
However, what you say makes good sense.....and I shall follow your recommendation!
The volume you chose also says it is "complete and unabridged" .
As there are only 3 volumes left, I shan't dally about, but will order it forthwith!
My existing (very elderly!) Collins dictionary can go to the church roof fund!
Thank you for your help!

Hello, Elle!
Fingers crossed we get good value for our money!
If you look further down the list, the same edition is around £4.67 from other book sellers, very good condition.
But for a few pence I would not go past World of Books.

They get a mention in this item.

Hi, Rusty!
Oops! Our previous posts crossed!
It was too late for me by the time I read your other post.....
I had already ordered the other volume at £5-14.
There was very little difference in price anyway..... and I couldn't work out how old the volumes are?
( I am not very good at this!)
Anyway, I am well pleased at the prospect of my new book......my old Collins is a (practically prehistoric) 1989 edition!
Yes, I always go for "World of Books", if it is a viable option.

Hello, Elle!
That's fine, you should get it from Tuesday next week, I think.
I have bought two Chambers from World of Books and they were excellent value.
Did you know they are the largest second hand book seller in Britain.
They buy in books by weight!
So much a ton and then sort them out!

Good morning, Rusty!
Brrrh! it's extremely cold this morning...only OC.
A very brisk walk indeed!
Yes, Tuesday is indeed the approximate delivery date I was given for my dictionary; I am looking forward to its coming.
I read with interest the section in Wikipedia about "World of Books".
I had no idea that they are such a big company.
And they are based in Goring- by -Sea!
I have been to Goring.....one of my friends lives there!
I am off out this morning..... a friend is shortly coming to collect me, and we are going shopping and then out for lunch.
How about you?
Are you meeting Miss L-B today to go to the Pine Cone?

Good morning, Elle!
It is overcast with bits of blue breaking through, here.
Supposed to be 8C outside but feels colder.
I had not heard of Goring-by-Sea.
Sounds like a place for the bullfights!
I am pleased to see a company like that get on.
I think they pay £75 a ton for books, sort the wheat from the chaff and then sell them.
I think I mentioned they sell CDs and DVDs too.
I am home for the day, now.
I was out in my car for a spin to charge up the battery.
I go several days without using it, so I give it a wee run now and again.

Hello Elle

I wonder if your friend who moved to Wales gets any Welsh into his puzzles. We need some as we get so much French, Spanish etc.

By the way, Blwyddyn Newydd Dda!

Hello Rusty

Yes it is in the High Street. Apparently the Queen and Tommy Cooper have been there, though not at the same time I imagine.

Hi, Rusty!
I am home again .......
My friend and I went to the Toby Carvery for lunch.
I had a 40% discount voucher, so that helped the food go down well!
Seriously, though...our local Carvery is excellent, and always produces four meats..... roast beef, turkey , gammon and pork......plus a variety of vegetables, and all the appropriate trimmings
(Plus roast lamb, should one go on a Sunday!)
We had a nice time.
Goring is near Worthing...you may have heard of that , perhaps?
W o B tell me that they have already dispatched my dictionary!
Have you done your crossword?

Happy New Year to you , too, Jigjag!

Hello, Elle!
I don't eat meat very often.
Apart from the odd bacon roll.
I eat a lot of fish, though.
But you seem to get good deals at your carvery.
I've never understood what trimmings are!
I have heard of Worthing, yes.
I finished my puzzle this morning.
I liked it!
New words were 14a, 25a, and 19d.
Well done, W o B.
They are pretty efficient.

Hi, Rusty!
Well, fish is a very healthy option for you.
I do like roast beef, although I do not have it very often.
I do not like white meat - chicken or turkey - very much.
Trimmings are normally an accompaniment or garnish to a main dish.
Like stuffing; cranberrry jelly or apple sauce; mustards; a variety of gravies; and of course Yorkshire puddings!
And such like!
All very tasty!
I have all but finished the crossword today.......
Yes, quite a nice puzzle.
I , too, did not know the term " head voice " or "ratafia" - and I still have not been able to do 19d?
Nor could I do 4d or 28a?
Is your son visiting you this evening?
