Hello, Malone!
Have you a Brewer's Dictionary?
There is a lot about "City" in there.
I never knew Cardiff was the "City of Dreadful Knights", or that Aberdeen was "Furry Boots City".
I loved the "Furry Boots" one!
Still chortling away, here!

Thanks, Rusty. Yes, I've got Brewer's and will have a look after tea - I like the sound of a Furry Boots city!

Hello Elle
I am with you completely. It would be interesting to hear what The TImes says.

Hello Rosalind
Interesting to hear about your ancestors. I did not know that St Asaph only became a city in 2012. It has always been regarded as one in N Wales because of the cathedral. As you say, it is a tiny place and I know locals who refer to it as a village, rarely a town, and never a large town.

Hello Rusty and Malone
Thanks for your views which I always respect. I dont mind being misled, and we know that "flower" means river and so on, but to say that a place is a city when the Queen has insisted that it is not, just strikes me as wrong. Incidently, I think that the correct answer to the clue is "Bilton"

Coincidentally, we stayed in St Asaph last late spring. We had been to Ness Gardens and the next-door RSPB reserve (the most avocets I've ever seen), then the next day we went to the Great Orme, and then Bodnant Gardens, which was at its absolute peak!
Port Sunlight on the way home the next day.....

Chris

Yes they are all great places to visit. Did you visit the Lady Lever Art Gallery or just look around the village? It is a gem, largely unknown. If "cities" were judged by their art, PS would be one!

The Lady Lever Gallery was the main reason for the visit!

Hi, Rusty!
You have never had sprout soup?
Then you should try it!
It is quite my favourite soup.
I also like lentil and tomato; and leek and potato.
We usually make our own soups.
What is the PAC?
The only thing I can think of is "political action committee"..... but I am sure it isn't that!
I have just been talking to my daughter, telephoning on her way home from work.
She did well today, managing to talk for about forty minutes before losing reception.
The children are getting very excited about Santa coming!

Chris and Jigjag,
The Lever family played a big part in the history of my old school!

Hello, Jigjag.
I have never heard of the Queen insisting on anything, do you have a link?
The primary definition of "city" in every dictionary I have looked at, is "a large town".

Hello, Elle!
Lentil, carrot, and bacon is my favourite soup!
PAC is the acronym for Porting Authorisation Code.
This lets me keep my same 'phone number.
Without it I would have to get whichever number the network gave me.
I am heading out for a short while now....family taxiing!
Just a short run though!
