Hi, Rusty!
May I ask what might turn out to be a ridiculous question?
How is this time limit arrived at?
31 minutes and 27 seconds sounds a most odd/ unusual time limitation?
Yes, I can understand the restriction...but not how the timing is calculated?
Am I to assume that it varies according to either the occasion/ location...or the time taken by the lead rider?
I wonder will I ever come to grips with this?!

JG, thank you ...useful information to have...
But it shouldn't have been necessary in such an incidence a this morning, as BG say no engineer of theirs is entitled to phone customers to change appointments.
So it was suss from the word "go"!

Hi jazzgirl,

Your advice re the Gas engineers is all very well, but
don't you think the folks on this Forum - particularly the PCT - are
well aware of the need to be cautious about this type of phone
call? Perhaps you could credit them with a reasonable level of
intelligence?

Hello, Elle!
Now, the time limit!
What they do is take the winning time of the stage winner and apply a formula (a kind of percentage, I think) to that time and that is the elimination time limit.
It varies from day to day.
Now, I know a bit about Cav, today.
He was away at the back of the race with two team mates, Mark Renshaw and I do not know the other one.
But the two of them left Cav, probably on team orders, to try and get inside the limit themselves, and Cav was left to look after himself.
Better that than three team mates getting eliminated.
Seems as if Cav was having a really bad day, no other reason.
He has had a lot of injuries this past year and probably is not as fit as he would like to be.

PIgale
I have nothing further to say about the subject, nor anything else on this thread.
Continue to enjoy your PCT but I will not be posting again.

Jazzgirl, although I found some of your security/phone calls information superfluous, other parts were interesting and informative. The occasional reminder about security - in all aspects of life - can only be a good thing. I didn't see any part where you assumed forum users had a less than reasonable level of intelligence!

I'm not a great chatterer here, but I would miss seeing your crossword posts.

Jazzgirl, I think Pigale has a fair point.
Although I let it go yesterday, I do think that you have a habit of "instructing" and delivering homilies that in some instances are totally unnecessary.
I did not need advice on how to behave with common sense.

Good Morning, Rusty!
We have a lovely fresh morning here!
It is very pleasant out just at the moment.
I hope it is the same with you?
Now..... the cycling time limit..
Ah yes, now I understand!
I just couldn't account for the odd timing......but as it a percentage of the winner's time, then that accounts for the unusual figure!
Thank you, too, for the article about Mark Cavendish.
Do you know, I am enjoying learning about the ins-and-outs of the "trade", far more than I would enjoy watching the actual racing!
It is fascinating!
What have you got lined up for today?

Good morning, Elle!
Great day here!
You would have liked the past two days of Le Tour.
Great scenery, and no crashes!
I do not pretend to know the formula that decides the time limit, but it is based on the winning rider's time.
I feel sorry for Cav and Kittel, but "rules is rules"!
The Open Golf has started, Sandy Lyle teed off at 6.35.
It is "live" on Sky all day.
The course at Carnoustie is about 13 miles away from me.
I am home for the day now.

Hi, Rusty!
I didn't realise - me and Geography again - that the Carnoustie course is relatively close to you.
Have you never been tempted to go there in person to watch ?
Mind you, I am sure you will follow the game far better, by watching on the television!
We found this, when last year we went the London Stadium to watch the Para- athletes perform.
Yes, it was a great experience being a part of the supportive crowd, and imbibing the atmosphere....
But we could only really see if we looked up at the big screen!
It was better to watch from home!
