Hi, Rusty!
Opps! I must apologise for failing to answer for such a long time!
I have had a very welcome zizz!
Tiredness, because of the lack of sleep at nights due to heat, finally caught up with me!
There is no point in speaking to TW - I expected this increase in the water bills to happen once we were metered.
It is the principle here that annoys me, not the cost!
I refuse to allow this to alter our lifestyle!
TW told me that I could save money, if I used my washing machine on the 30 degree cycle all the time!
The princely amount that they said I would save for washing clothes/ bedding / towels / whatever/ on a cycle that I might not even wish to use, was £8 per YEAR!!
The last of the Big Savers?!
It is not just I....my friend and neighbour has had a similar potentially larger bill!
RE Wimbledon......yes, a movable roof for Centre Court now...... another for Court One which will be finally completed in time for next year's Championships.
A second retractable roof will make a lot of difference!
Again, sorry, for the time lag....hopefully, you will not yet have gone to bed!

Hello, Ros!
Sorry...as I've just explained to Rusty....I have just had a well-deserved sleep!
I awoke to find my book on the floor.........
I am now of course , wide -awake and rearing to go...full of energy I could have done with earlier in the day!
Going on from what you were saying about children's accidents in A and E.....
These latest deaths / serious accidents due to inflatable bouncy castles is really worrying, isn't it?
I think there is rarely a children's party where one does not see an inflatable in situ for the children to bounce about on??
I do hope the ban goes ahead.

Good morning, Elle!
Yes, I turned my computer off and fell asleep earlier than usual yesterday.
Was reading my book.
Regarding your water bill, Elle, everyone is different.
Many would appreciate a saving of £8, and if you use less water in washing machine would there be a saving on electricty use, too, or is that where the saving would come from?
Your problem seems to be that your bill has gone up....no saving at all?
Is that since the leak was fixed?
Worth a call to Thames Water?
Was the tennis on Centre Court postponed because of rain?
Another warm day forecast for here!

Hi elle

I wouldn't ban bouncy castles until I knew what caused this one to explode, which is what I understand happened. Air under too much pressure? They give a lot of pleasure and we can't ban everything that has caused death and injuries, for example those big wheels. Rugby is a dreadful game, imho, and has caused horrendous injury and death. At least for children the rules have been modified to make it less dangerous, but not for adults as I understand it.
At least 6 top class players have died after being hit with a cricket ball and it seems the eldest son of George 11.
I watched "A & E"last night- the consultant in charge said he would not allow his 3 daughters to play on monkey bars, ride a pony or jump on a trampoline. He added he didn't think he could stop them, though! I certainly agree about horse riding- I've seen figures of perhaps 10 deaths a year and 3% of all spinal injuries. I wouldn't stop it even if I could, but just hope my granddaughter doesn't take it up. Bet she does.

I believe I'm right in saying that the purpose of water meters is to encourage customers to use less water and thus reduce bills.

Water- saving Freebies from Thames Water. I already have some of them.

https://www.thameswater.co.uk/Be-water-smart/Water-saving-freebies

My lawns look like the Sahara desert but I don't water them as they will recover quickly and become green again when the rains come. ( I don't have a hose pipe, nor sprinkler)

No sign of a water meter here as yet.

Hello rusty
That's because you are nowhere near the Thames area ;)
Try putting in a different postcode eg. KT12

Good morning, Rusty!
My word, you were up early!
It is an overcast and very hot and humid morning here as yet......although we are promised sunshine.......
I am hoping that it will stay dry in Wimbledon!
Yes, the tennis yesterday was postponed because of the heavy rain there !
And at such a crucial stage in the Wawrinka v. Fabbiano match , too!
You may well have a point about the leak, Rusty!
Who pays?
I did raise the issue with a Thames Water official back in May, it having taken them four months to come repair the leak!
I was assured by said TW agent that once a leak was reported, the customer did not have to meet the extra water bill from that time onwards until the leak was repaired.
But hey, who's counting and how is one lot of "missing" water distinguished from another?
It could well be that this extra ( four months' leakage) cost was incorporated in our "comparative metered" bill !
That would certainly account for the "extra" costing.
Fortunately, at this stage we do not have to pay it.......
But I shall raise the point again with TW.
You are away out to the Pine Cone this morning, aren't you?
What time is Miss O picking you up?

Hello, JG!
We already had most of those water saving aids in place long before any TW reps came around offering their "freebies".
A lot are built into our devices.

But for any one wanting to try them out , follow Jazzgirl's link.
