Hello, Elle. Goodnight Jazzgirl!
Yes, it is very interesting indeed.
The bishop would be a Lord Spiritual, I think?
Are there other similar places to Ely, Holborn, for other bishops, say?
Like the Bishop of Durham.
Has he a place to hang his hat in London?
Amazing that Ely Place is part of Cambridgeshire.
Not unlike a part of Canada being at Vimy Ridge in France.
Anyway, no messing with Queen Bess.
She evicted the bishop and installed one of her "favourites".
I shall miss "Treasures".
I learned quite a lot and was entertained at the same time.

That's ok, Jazzy!
By the by.......there is a book called "Flickering Lamps" - don' t know who wrote it - but it is about Christ and the Church..
It is that to which I thought you were referring!
Confusion abounds!

Last post before I go ....
I watched "the Good old days" on BBC4 (can't remember which night, but it's on every week)

Patricia Hayes performing "the ghost of Sarah Porter"

....and just as they're about
to snuff the candle out
(loud SCREAM )

UP jumps the Ghost of Sarah Porter !!

I'm off

Hi, Rusty!
Now I am getting out of my depth, here , Rusty!
I have just looked up the definition of "enclave".....it is given as
"a portion of territory surrounded by a larger territory whose inhabitants are culturally or ethnically distinct."
Based on this precept , I think I have read (but where?) that there are four (I think) other places like this dotted about the world!
One , I think, is an Italian town in Switzerland?
I shall have to do some research!
(Ely Place is no longer a part of Cambridgeshire...it now belongs to London!)
I am being called for dinner.......my husband has made Shepherd's Pie!
And your son will be visiting you?
Talk in a bit......

Hello, Elle,
I am out of my depth too.
Can we not discuss the Tour de France?!!!
Well, we have all learned a bit this week.
I know France gave part of Vimy Ridge to Canada in honour of the Canadian troops killed there.
Have a look at Flickering Lamps site.
Much to interest folk on it.
Yes, my son has gone home.
He was not at the butcher today.
I like shepherd's pie.
i have to text these girls now, to see what they are up to!
Back later!

Hi, Rusty!
I thought that if there were an ENclave, there could possibly be an EXclave , so decided to consult Chambers!
But more or less the same definition is given for each.....that is confusing?
Now it is surprising how well things can work out!
As you know, I should have gone to Bromley today, but plans went adrift.....
However, my daughter has phoned me to ask if I could meet her there tomorrow!
She has an eye appointment at SpecSavers opticians and also wants to choose some new spectacle frames.
Then we shall have lunch!
So that will be nice!
Did you manage to contact the girls?
I hope all is well with them?
