Thanks to a peek or two at the forum - thanks to all for answers to 29D and 47D - I have finally completed everything except 26D "Saying America's supportive of excess charge being raised, using some muscle" (7,7). I have G*U*E*S *A*I*U First word could be gluteus, which has something to do with a muscle, but I am defeated.

Gluteus maximus ?

excess = glut
charge = sue (raised0 = eus
Saying = maxim
america = US

Many thanks, Mam,and to you again too Silly Boy, but it was a HARD CLUE!! (Sue is a poor synonym for charge and I had never heard of a Gluteus, though I think I have one.)
