Hello, everyone, it's been a while since I've posted, altho' I always read everyone's posts.
Hope all those undergoing medical treatment are winning their battles...
I looked at this week's and thought I'd never crack it, mind a blank [not an unusual occurrence], then the panic sets in....
Anway, finished it yeehaaa!!!
Mind you, it took about 3-4 hours - not like you, Caravaggio, or Jazzgirl. Interestingly, altho' not musical, I got 5d right away - and 4d ...
It always amuses me the way people tackle the crossword, and which clues they find easy/difficult
Weather great in the sunny Republic of S Yorks - but not ventured into the garden - bit nesh...
Regards to all
Chris

hi chris
Magworth & caravaggio were streets ahead this week. It took me much longer.
It's interesting to see the word 'nesh' as that's not a word you hear down here in the South.

hi Jazzgirl - are you from upt'North, then? Or just come across the word during your crossword forays???
I love reading everyone's posts, even though I don't join in. Sometimes it feels like a very exclusive club with members who've know each other for a long time, and I feel a bit like new girl on the block....
Cheers
Chris

Hi again chris
All are welcome to join in with us RT-ers and it's good to hear from you again.
No, I'm Wiltshire-born (now living in the Southeast)but one side of the family's roots were in Yorkshire (Darley,Birstwith & around Nidderdale) I am sure it was pretty nesh up there at times ;)

Chris: It's good to hear from you again and, out of curiosity, did you get bletch on your legs from your bike chain when you were a little girl? I'm wondering whether this is another word which is peculiar to the North. Kind regards, Caravaggio.

One of my daughters lives between Wakefield and Leeds. I love visiting, Yorkshire is so beautiful. it was when she was at Durham Uni that I first saw the North and realised how magnificent it is. I was amazed to see miles of apparently uninhabited moors and valleys - like a different country. M.

Magworth: My son was at Durham University too and I fell in love with the city and could quite easily live there. Kind regards, Caravaggio.

Well said Caravaggio about welcoming Jazz girl back after last week. I too had no idea what it was all about. We do very occasionally seem to have these little bursts of antipathy.

I still have several clues to get but cannot remember which ones. I have escaped to the Library as there are workmen in the house. My children are giving me a new bathroom with a walk-in shower. It will be lovely.

I too love Durham. Whenever I travelled south I always tried to book a train seat on the left hand side going south (and the right going north) just so I could get another glimpse of its magnificent cathedral Even did a painting of it.

See you all later when I get really stuck on the Xword. Fantastic weather here too. Cannot believe it is March!!

Mondrian: It's good to hear from you too. Yes, you're right - the cathedral is magnificent - and, when the congregation takes place [the awarding of degrees], the green quadrangle is covered with tents with the cathedral to one side of the square. At the time that Adam was awarded his degree, Peter Ustinov was the Chancellor of Durham University and his address was absolutely brillant [as you might guess]. With best wishes, Caravaggio.

Caravaggio. I can imagine Peter Ustinov`s address. When Kate got hers in 1985 Dame Margot Fonteyn was vice-Chancellor. She was tiny but had wonderful posture - looked beautiful in her velvet robes and hat. At about the same time a newspaper said she was a recluse and never left Brazil!
