Grid filled. Down entries altered. Poet highlighted. Continuous line - partly drawn.

I can find two thematic items that start at the leftmost cell, and two that end at the rightmost cell, but cannot see the item(s) that connect my two lines. I have a list of all the potential thematic items, but so far all grid-staring has been in vain.

Given the title of the puzzle and the 4 thematic items I have so far, I find it hard to believe I'm barking up the wrong tree. Has anyone drawn the line? (Perhaps giving a year for the 3rd thematic item would put me out of my misery.)

2 left for my grid fill anyone please
Edmund’s to make journey in Dundee to collect bishop (5)
Ancient cups in Hungary are spread around (6)

The first one looks like it needs RR inside Scot’s for journey . So why Edmund ?
Thanks

Chambers lists it as a Spenserian word

Standard abbrevs for Hungary and are, then a reverse of a word meaning spread.

drxx - ?? Wiki indicates that the event in question did not have a result in 1993 - so have I got the wrong event? My 4 found so far seem to be in 1983, 1992, ...., 1966, 2015.

Filling the grid wasn't too bad, but I am utterly stumped by the poem. Is it famous, and am I howling in the wrong forest by looking at 21d? I can't see anything else.
